Concert Information for Orchestra 2023-24 year
All school concerts are mandatory. Dates will be on this page as soon as possible. Make sure to plan on them. Our night concerts are all scheduled, so get these dates on your family calendar!
After school rehearsals:
Nov 15th and Dec 6th from 2:45-4:15 pm
WINTER CONCERT- December 12th at 7:00pm (report at 6:30 pm) at Hillside- concert black and white (see below for details)
Open House at Hillside- January 25th - 6:30 pm, report at 6:15pm- wear Orchestra T-shirt and jeans or black pants.
District Orchestra Festival - Orchestra April 23rd - during school day- 9:30am-noon- concert black
Spring Concert- May 14th at 7:00pm at Hillside- report 6:30pm concert black or black and white dress.
Lagoon-May 18th 8:15 am - Orchestra II- all day- leave Lagoon 7:30pm
Night Concert and Festival dress code:
Concert black or black and white
As with any sport or dance, we wear a uniform to keep the audience focused on
the performance, not any single person. We want them to see a unified looking
group. This is your uniform.
Option 1- white or black button up shirt or polo shirt or plain black top with no logos with black or very dark grey pants (not jeans unless SOLID black, not faded) and dark dress shoes or all black or dark grey sneakers if that is all you have. Ties are optional, but look great! Ties can have some color, but should not be novelty ties. NO logo shirts, or anything that does not meet school dress code. Shirts should be all black or all white and not sleeveless. No sweatshirts, please!
Option 2 - black or white dress top or sweater (not t-shirt or tank top) and black skirt (knee length or longer) or a black or black and white dress. Neutral colored dark dress shoes. No midriff baring, very short or strappy dresses or shirts, must look professional on stage.

We have a large collection of gently used concert clothing that has been donated
for students at Hillside. We would be happy to help!
Students may only miss one performance for an unavoidable and important conflict or an illness and make up the grade. Parents must give at least 2 weeks notice for any planned event to get make up work.
Concert Make-Up project: Students may make up only one concert grade for the school year for illness, emergency or an unavoidable planned event with at least 2 weeks notice. Must be approved by Mrs. Misco ahead of time. Complete the project below within one week of missed concert:
Students may make up 90% of one concert grade for the school year for illness, emergency or an unavoidable planned event with at least 2 weeks notice. Must be approved by Mrs. Misco ahead of time. Complete the project below within one week of missed concert:
Option 1- Attend, or watch on youtube or other source, an Orchestra, Band or Choir performance, at least 40 minutes in length. Write at least one page about the group, the music, observations about the performance, and the type of group. Some ideas: Utah Symphony, other symphony online, community orchestra, band or choir, local school concert. Also, perform a 12-15 measure section of each concert piece for Mrs. Misco either in person before or after school or by video (canvas or email).
Option 2- Perform at least 3 of your concert songs for family members, and they can write feedback about your performance. You will also need to record one of your songs (your choice) for Mrs. Misco (canvas or email).
Due within 1 week of missed performance for credit. You may e-mail or print the written portion of the project. Grade based on quality of information and the accuracy of the performance of your concert song or sections.
